Creating a Book Using HTML Templates eBook Pardu Ponnapalli Reviews
Exactly what I was looking for. Clear and simple. Good examples and sample code.
Fist let me say that the book's preface is probably worth the purchase price! That much I enjoyed reading although if you've written one or more ebooks then you've probably already experienced the emotional arc described there. (maybe you don't want to be reminded?)
The rest of the book invites the writer to learn HTML, the page formatting language of the internet, which I personally think is a bad idea. A writer should spend their time getting better at writing, not learning to be a programmer. You might find it satisfying to be able to create simple web pages that won't crash your browser but you will never become a web designer unless you stop being a writer and pursue web development full-time.
My suggestion is write, using whatever word-processor you are familiar with. Unless you already have ten books under your belt don't try to get fancy in the beginning. Use one font, go ahead and use bold and italics if it helps the reader focus on a single thought. Forget whatever else you think you might know about desk-top publishing because for the most part it will be wasted on the small-format ebook displays.
When you have all of your text in digital format, edited, spell-checked, etc. join a local book club if you haven't already and enlist the help of a benevolent geek (they can help you find one). They can convert your word-processor file to the file type needs for publishing. It will take you more time to set up your publishing account than it will take to upload and publish your ebook. (once you learn the basic steps)
Spending time on the HTML "stuff" slows down the writing and publishing process and the payback is not worth the time investment for a real writer. If you're honestly only writing as a hobby then maybe you don't care if you waste some time on learning the ins and outs of the programming. If you're pursuing a writing career this will only frustrate you and slow you down. Leave the geek stuff to the geeks until gets their publishing tools up to where they need to be!
It wasn't what I expected.
The actual templates will help you arrange as well as modify your projects, and they'll additionally provide you with a great knowledge of exactly how to take advantage of HTML.
If you want to know how to make a ebook, this book explains the html code involved.
Pity cut & paste doesn't work on .
I disagree with the previous reviewer. You either learn how to do it or pay someone else. It's not that hard.
I really like the author's clear explanation and illustrations. It is a great resource for novices who are unfamiliar with the tools, language and techniques used to create a Book. .
