Duc 3rd Edition Triumph of the Absurd A reporter love for the abandoned people of Vietnam eBook Uwe SiemonNetto
Uwe Siemon-Netto has written a history of his time as a German war correspondent in Vietnam from the point of view of a person who is a "lover of freedom and anxious for the fray." (See The Federalist web site) He grew up in 1930s Germany and is no stranger to the deprivations of war. Siemon-Netto strips away the myths, and blows away the fog of distorted reporting that twisted the image of America's involvement in Southeast Asia. He reminds the reader that America's commitment was a noble cause, and that the real evil was perpetrated by the enemies of freedom. Siemon-Netto takes us into the heart of the Vietnamese country-side to meet the people and see their plight--hunger, illness, deprivation of their livelihoods, their customs, their men, women and children. From the foreword by Peter R. Kann: "He captures...the pathos and absurdities, the combat, cruelties and human cost of a conflict which...the wrong side won....[Siemon-Netto's] heart, throughout this powerful and moving volume, is always and ardently with the Vietnamese people." For me, as a young woman coming of age during this time, and with a military father who took his turn as a pilot in Vietnam, this book told me the stories my father could not tell, as so many veterans are unable to, after living the horror first-hand. I urge you to read this, whatever your opinions were if you were living back then, and especially if you are too young to have heard of this time in our history. Uwe Siemon-Netto has done Americans a great service by showing us in his book that our country was fighting for a noble cause, regardless of what the revisionists say.Tags : Duc 3rd Edition: Triumph of the Absurd: A reporter's love for the abandoned people of Vietnam - Kindle edition by Uwe Siemon-Netto. Duc 3rd Edition Triumph of the Absurd A reporter love for the abandoned people of Vietnam eBook Uwe SiemonNetto Reviews
A good read. Viet Nam from a different perspective. Will make you question our dishonorable behavior in abandoning so many people.
A fair but poignant report well worth reading. The "absurd" and the villain had won the situation, but not the heart and mind of this admirable man!
An excellent and truthful writing of what he saw and experienced In South Vietnam and the horrible suffering of the South Vietnamese people. Dr. Siemon-Netto is commended for a beautiful reading experience.
The Vietnam War from a very different perspective--that of a politically incorrect yet at times hilarious German war correspondent. The real story of the Vietnam War -- as the liberal press at the time did not tell us -- with excellent applications to America's involvement in the Middle East in the 21st century. Moving and gripping, winsomely written.
Excellent read. Different perspective on the Vietnam Conflict and the people who suffered through it. Siemon-Netto is always a joy to read or to listen to. Was helpful to hear from a German correspondent who lived so much of the war up close and in person.
This is one of the most intriguing book that I have read about the VIETNAM WAR..The AUTHOR lays out the truth about how the was reported and miss reported. He shows the SUFFERING OF THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE AND DIED in this war..This SUFFERING still go on today with the loss of FREEDOM FOR A NATION. THANK YOU UWE SIEMON-NETTO
Excellent book especially how he points out the ridiculous reporting of the war by U.S. Journalist who mainly enjoyed the bars and hotels in Saigon and never left the city. One thing he stresses that is important is the brutality of the VC and NVA, (witnessed personally by a lot of us that were there). They were no better than Stalin or Mao! This was never played in America. If the people only knew!
The one fallacy he mentions several times - Air America was owned by the CIA. That is not true at all, though it did survive mainly on government contracts, the majority which were let by USAID.
